Saint-Gobain Corporation Recognized on Human Rights Campaign’s 2018 Corporate Equality Index

Malvern, PA., Nov. 9, 2017Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest building materials companies and manufacturer of innovative material solutions, announced today it has been included on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC’s) 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking tool that measures companies’ policies and practices relating to LGBTQ workplace equality. This is Saint-Gobain’s first year submitting responses to the CEI, resulting in a score of 90 out of 100 percent.

“At Saint-Gobain, we create products that combine comfort and sustainability to enhance the well-being of people all over the world, and in that spirit, we must remember that well-being includes providing our employees with a safe, comfortable, engaging work culture that fosters a sense of belonging,” said Thomas Kinisky, President and CEO of Saint-Gobain North America. “We know that innovation is born when diverse teams come together, so we’re proud to be recognized on the CEI and view this as an ongoing opportunity for Saint-Gobain to evolve to meet people’s changing needs each and every day – just as our company has done for over 350 years.”

The CEI survey is administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, which then ranks companies on a scale of 0 to 100 based on a set of five criteria that centers on employment benefits, policies and practices, and resources for the LGBTQ community. The set of criteria changes each year but is always focused on measuring workplace inclusivity for LGBTQ employees.

“At Saint-Gobain, we encourage employees to bring their authentic selves to work each day. A diverse and inclusive environment entails more than gender and ethnic diversity – it also brings together diverse perspectives, experiences and ideas,” said Michael Cahill, Chair, Saint-Gobain North America Diversity & Inclusion Council, and Vice President and General Manager, Saint-Gobain Crystals & NorPro. “We’re proud to be recognized for our diversity and inclusion efforts, as we know they offer a competitive advantage that creates a more engaging environment, helps us outperform our competitors and enables our businesses to grow beyond expectations.”

This achievement follows Saint-Gobain’s launch earlier this year of LIVE OPEN, an Employee Resource Group (ERG) for members and allies of the LGBTQ community – the goals for which were set in part by reviewing HRC’s standards.

The Human Rights Campaign comprises more than three million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national LGBTQ civil rights organization, HRC advocates for basic equal rights and open, honest and safe environments at home, at work and in the community.
