Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer- Automation, CapX: Northboro, MA

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer- Automation, CapX: Northboro, MA

CertainTeed Offsite Solutions is at a pivotal moment of growth as we scale the OPA (One Precision Assemblies) panel manufacturing system across a growing nationwide network of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs). To do this successfully, we need a Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer who can bring technical leadership, systems thinking, and disciplined execution to ensure our manufacturing model scales safely, consistently, and profitably. In this role, you are essential because you will define and own the manufacturing system standards that underpin our national expansion.

  • You will translate R&D innovation into repeatable, production‑ready manufacturing solutions, ensuring every CMO operates to the same high standards for safety, quality, throughput, and cost. Without this leadership, scalability breaks down—your work ensures that scale drives advantage rather than complexity.
  • We need you to serve as the technical integrator across internal teams and external partners.
  • You will align CertainTeed Platforms R&D, Offsite Solutions operations, CapEx and Purchasing, and CMO partners around a single, coherent technical roadmap.
  • Your expertise will guide equipment and vendor selection, manufacturing system design, and site deployment sequencing, ensuring each new site is onboarded efficiently and in full alignment with defined controls and performance expectations.
  • As a senior individual contributor, you will lead complex, first‑of‑kind manufacturing initiatives that demand sound engineering judgment and the confidence to operate with a high degree of autonomy.
  • You will evaluate alternatives, manage technical risk, and make data‑driven recommendations that balance speed, cost, and long‑term scalability.
  • Your ability to structure ambiguity into practical frameworks, operating guidelines, and governance mechanisms is critical to enabling multi‑site execution.
  • Your impact will be measured in outcomes that matter: faster CMO ramp‑up, improved quality and yield, increased throughput, lower conversion costs, and consistent compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Simply put, we need you to ensure that as our manufacturing network expands, performance improves—not erodes.
  • You will help build the technical foundation that allows CertainTeed Offsite Solutions to grow with confidence, discipline, and operational excellence.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 7–10 years of experience in manufacturing systems engineering, preferably in capital-intensive production environments (e.g., building products, industrialized construction)
  • 5–7 years of experience applying mechanical or industrial engineering principles in manufacturing environments, including system design, equipment integration, and process optimization
  • 5–7 years of experience supporting or leading Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or operational excellence initiatives (e.g., waste reduction, throughput improvement, quality enhancement)
  • Strong understanding of AEC concepts, workflows, and manufacturing-to-construction integration, especially for scalable and repeatable production systems
  • Proven experience in manufacturing innovation, including evaluation, integration, and modernization of production technologies and equipment
  • Experience managing and coordinating third-party contractors, system integrators, and equipment vendors, ensuring alignment with technical standards and performance expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, upgrade, or convert legacy manufacturing technologies to improve operational performance and enable scalability
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex or ambiguous manufacturing challenges using systems thinking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline, particularly in advanced systems engineering, manufacturing, or process design
  • 5–7 years of experience leading or supporting complex, cross-functional manufacturing projects, including coordination across stakeholders and management of scope, schedule, and budget
  • Practical and technical expertise with a demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary manufacturing initiatives and apply advanced engineering judgment within defined business objectives
