Founded in 1979 Agway’s diverse solutions comprise a range of product lines focused on residential, agricultural, industrial, commercial and institutional market applications. Agway ensures that every steel solution it delivers meets or exceeds the specific demands and expectations of the Customer.

The Project Engineer will work on projects of varying size and complexity across all of the Agway plants.  The focus will be to develop and deliver projects in a cost effective and timely manner by using tools such as project plans, timelines, and strong collaboration with the technical and operations teams. The role will be involved in equipment installations, equipment modifications, building and utility improvements, layout optimizations, and continuous improvement initiatives designed to increase safety, assure quality, and optimize productivity.

The responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Project Management

  • Conduct investigations, drive development, and oversee the successful implementation of projects.
  • Prepare capital requests and support the development of compelling business cases.
  • Support the capital program, ensuring strategic planning and execution.
  • Establish and maintain equipment standards and specifications to streamline purchasing and manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate the procurement, installation, and startup of new equipment, ensuring efficiency and operational success.
  • Provide critical support for new product development initiatives.

Operations and Production

  • Develop, maintain, and refine product and equipment drawings.
  • Provide reverse engineering support for equipment and products as required.
  • Identify opportunities for waste reduction, implement strategies, and monitor progress to enhance sustainability.
  • Learn about quality control challenges on various production lines and investigate equipment enhancements that could be undertaken to improve the quality.
  • Optimize processes, flow and layouts to improve productivity.
  • Improve production standards through time studies and other data-driven methodologies.

Finance

  • Conduct project budgeting to ensure financial efficiency and strategic allocation of resources.
  • Track costs and provide accurate financial oversight and ensuring adherence to budget constraints.
  • Conduct in-depth cost analyses as required by senior management, delivering insights that support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure that competitive bidding is utilized in the quoting process.

Health and Safety

  • Identify safety related training opportunities and requirements.
  • Assist in training line workers in problem-solving techniques and on-the-spot production troubleshooting.
  • Promote health and safety awareness to all associates.
  • Ensure all Occupational Health and Safety legislative requirements are considered and integrating into operational planning and execution, including compliance with local, national standards and legislation.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain lasting working relationships
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Completed Engineering degree or a technical diploma in Engineering
  • Roll-forming and/or custom fabrication experience is an asset
  • Robust understanding of change management principles
  • Willingness to travel on a frequent basis to all Agway locations
  • Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or equivalent software
  • Self-starter who takes initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to influence and negotiate
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Solid knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related requirements

Work Conditions

  • Manufacturing plant environment;
  • Travel to Agway plants on an ongoing basis (current locations are in Ontario and Quebec);
  • Overtime as required.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates, the base pay range for this position is $90 000 to $115 000 per year. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a discretionary bonus.
