Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Breaks Ground on Beaverton Site Expansion

The expansion by Beaverton’s largest employer will create 60 jobs for skilled workers in the manufacturing industry.

Beaverton, Mich. – September 10, 2018 – The Life Science business unit of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest building materials companies and manufacturer of innovative material solutions, today officially broke ground on the expansion to its site in Beaverton. The site is part of the Life Science business unit of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, which is focused on developing and manufacturing high-performance components and systems that enhance patient care. Distinguished guests at the groundbreaking included Beaverton Mayor Ray Nau, Beaverton City Manager Heath Kaplan, and Michigan State Representative Jason Wentworth.

The expansion project will increase development and manufacture capacity for Single Use Systems (SUS), the components and assemblies utilized in the manufacturing of life-saving drugs and vaccines. This project will also create 60 additional jobs for skilled workers in the manufacturing industry and allow the company to remain the largest employer in Beaverton.

“For more than 20 years, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has served as a strong partner of our City, and this expansion is another step we are taking together to further support Beaverton’s economic development,” said City Manager Kaplan. “We are grateful that Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics has chosen to continue to invest in our city, our people, and our community.”

The expansion will be constructed using non-combustible materials and designed to add floor space to host extrusion, molding, and assembly in ISO Class 7 production space. Additional warehouse space, a new Development Center, Materials Test Lab, and a new two-story office space are also included in the expansion plans.

“The site expansion will allow potential employees to experience the positive impact they can have by manufacturing products that save lives around the world,” said Sue Shay, Plant Manager at Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics in Beaverton. “From competitive salaries to strong training offerings for continued growth, potential employees will be able to experience how fulfilling a career in manufacturing can be.”

The Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics expansion project is expected to be complete in December of 2019.
